The Final Stretch

Tennessee is in its final stretches of “stay-at-home” orders.  While group activities are a little further down the road, the economy will soon be getting a needed boost with the phasing in of non-essential businesses. Today’s “In the Meantime” is all about how you can make the most of this “home stretch” of quarantine. 

Since the beginning of shelter-in-place orders, virtual “hangouts” have become more and more popular all over the world. One of the biggest apps we enjoy is Houseparty (download the iOS or Android versions). This app allows you to connect to your friends and family all over the world and play games while doing so. Side note, some of us do like Pokerface as well.  Today, the Visit WilCo Team wants to give you our two cents to host the perfect virtual game night! 

First things first, make sure you and all your friends download the Houseparty app and create accounts. You can’t have a virtual game night without the games! Once this is done, make sure you have created your game night menus! See our list below of some recommendations of restaurants who deliver! Let’s be honest here, Whatever meal planning you’ve done for the last month is all planned out.  You need and break from cooking and there are MANY great restaurants around that would appreciate your business and support.  Apologies to any of our great restaurants that might have been omitted from the list.  Full lists of all restaurants and their accommodations during this time can be found at the Mt. Once you’ve picked out your food (don’t forget to take advantage of grocery store pick-up and delivery options for all your game night junk food, candy, popcorn, and drinks), call all your friends and pick a game! 

Houseparty offers multiple game options within the app, and they have add-ons and extra games for purchase as well. Have your own favorite game at home? Create a version that can be done virtually to add to the fun! 

Now, here is one of the most important parts of virtual game night. Amidst the fun of the games and the deliciousness of the food you didn’t have to cook, talk and plan.  Talk to your friends and family about how you miss them and how you miss places.  Plan to see the friends and family that you miss at the places you miss.  Talk about and plan a trip to Wilson County! We’re in the home stretch.  Stay strong, stay healthy, and let’s end this! We hope to see all of you soon in Wilson County!
